Claude adds Personal Finance via Plaid
Anthropic has added a Personal Finance feature to Claude that lets users connect bank and card accounts through Plaid. Once accounts are linked, users can ask the chatbot questions about their finances, such as where their money went during a given month, and receive analysis based on the connected account data. The feature moves Claude beyond general conversation and into a sensitive personal-data workflow where privacy and accuracy are critical. Financial information is highly personal, and any AI assistant that analyzes it must handle security, permissions and error risk carefully. Anthropic's use of Plaid is notable because Plaid is already widely used to connect financial accounts to apps and services. That could make the setup familiar to consumers, but it also raises expectations around consent and data protection. The launch puts Anthropic in competition with financial apps and other AI assistants that are adding money-management capabilities. It also shows how AI companies are trying to turn chatbots into practical assistants for everyday decisions, not just writing and research. Claude's finance feature could help users spot spending patterns, understand monthly cash flow and get plain-language explanations of their financial activity. At the same time, the product will need to earn trust by being transparent about what data it uses and how it protects it. The feature is a significant step for Anthropic because it ties Claude to live personal accounts rather than static prompts. As AI assistants take on more sensitive tasks, the ability to combine useful analysis with strong privacy safeguards will be a key test for adoption.
