Alibaba's HappyHorse 1.1 Rises to No. 2 in Video AI
Alibaba Cloud has released HappyHorse 1.1, a significant upgrade to its AI video generation model, and the results are already turning heads. The updated model has climbed to the No. 2 spot in global rankings for AI video generation, trailing only behind industry leader OpenAI’s Sora, according to independent benchmarks.
HappyHorse 1.1 represents a major leap forward in quality and capability compared to its predecessor. The model now offers production-ready video synthesis for core content creation scenarios, including marketing videos, short-form social media content, educational animations, and even preliminary footage for film pre-visualization. Users can generate high-resolution videos from text prompts, image inputs, or even rough storyboard sketches.
Key improvements in version 1.1 include better temporal consistency—meaning characters and objects remain stable across frames without flickering or distortion—more realistic physics and motion, and enhanced ability to follow complex, multi-step instructions. The model also supports longer video generation, with clips extending up to 60 seconds at 1080p resolution, a significant increase from the previous 15-second limit.
Alibaba Cloud has made HappyHorse 1.1 available via API, allowing developers and businesses to integrate video generation directly into their workflows. This accessibility is expected to accelerate adoption in industries ranging from e-commerce to entertainment. The company has also released a set of safety filters and content moderation tools to prevent misuse.
“We are committed to making AI video generation practical and accessible for real-world applications,” said an Alibaba Cloud product manager. “HappyHorse 1.1 brings us closer to the point where AI-generated video is indistinguishable from traditionally captured footage for many use cases.”
The rise to No. 2 in global rankings puts Alibaba in direct competition with Western AI leaders, highlighting the rapid progress of Chinese AI companies in the generative media space. With continued investment and development, HappyHorse could soon challenge for the top spot, especially as Alibaba leverages its massive cloud infrastructure to offer competitive pricing and low latency.
For content creators and businesses, the availability of a high-quality, API-accessible video generation model represents a powerful new tool that could significantly reduce production costs and turnaround times.
